Pebblesoft Learning Library
The heart of the Pebblesoft Learning System is the Pebblesoft Learning Library.
This product contains all the information and learning materials of your curriculum
in a web-based, networked, interactive, multi-media learning environment on the internet
and intranets. It also contains information about your learners, their learning requirements,
and their individual progress.
The Pebblesoft Learning Library stores learning materials in chunks called Pebblesoft
Learning Objects. These objects include multiple levels of hierarchies such as Course,
Units and Lessons and non-hierarchical levels such as Introduction, Summary and Collaboration.
The Library provides facilities to:
- Map HTML-pages into learning objects for the Library.
- Reuse learning objects any number of times to create customized versions of higher-level
learning objects.
- Search for learning objects.
- Provide pre-formatted administrative reports.
- Retreive learning objectives of assigned curricula
and descriptions and goals for the curricula.
- Assign courses to curricula, curricula to job descriptions, job descriptions to learners.
- Tie curricula to a job title, degree or certification.
Interactive Catalog
The Interactive Catalog can be used by learners to search the Learning
Library for curricula and learning objects not specified for their job performance,
degree or certification in order to improve their qualifications. They also can access
any curriculum or learning objects assigned to them in the past to refresh their
memories. However, the employer may control access to certain administrative functions.
Additional Library Facilitates:
The Notebook
- Learners can "highlight" a learning object in a course by storing a reference to it in their private notebook.
- Comments can be added to the section (like margin notes in a book).
- References to learning objects in the workbook are automatically updated when the learning objects are updated in the system.
The learners always have the most current information in their notebooks.
- Learning materials are organized into folders for easy access at any time.
- Notebooks can be published for review by others.
The Commentator
- Learners can add private or public comments about the learning materials.
- A group dynamic can be created in the learning process by allowing others to
access the public comments.
The Collaborator
- Third-party, web-based collaboration tool may be integrated into and
accessed from within the Pebblesoft Learning Library environment.
- A built-in PebbleChat function creates sessions within the courses which can be stored within the Pebblesoft database for review.
Pebblesoft CourseMaker Workbench
Stocking the Learning Library with learning materials is surprisingly easy, thanks
to the Pebblesoft CourseMaker Workbench. Any HTML-based learning materials can be
added to the Pebblesoft Learning Library without modification. However, the CourseMaker
Workbench makes it easy for the user to adapt content in such a way that it takes
full advantage of all the features of the Library and delivers it to the best advantage
over the Internet. The CourseMaker Workbench tools are single-user programs which
require Windows 95TM as their operating platform.
Course Mapper is a tool designed to create a course map from a collection
of HTML-based content pages. Course Mapper is capable of:
- Analyzing the input HTML content and displaying the existing relationships between
the pages.
- Organizing learning objects into hierarchies (Course, Unit, Lesson, etc.) or
non-hierarchies (Introduction, Summary, Collaboration, etc.).
- Creating a course map of these learning objects with simple drag and drop
operations.
- Incorporating one or more HTML pages or part of an HTML page into a learning object.
- Adding its learning object menu items to the menus of supported HTML editors
and authoring tools, so users can work directly in their accustomed environments
while mapping HTML pages into the Pebblesoft Learning Library.
- Inserting collaboration activities into existing course material.
Once a course has been mapped into Pebblesoft Learning Objects, it may be loaded
into the Library. However, there is another useful step that can be taken using the
following tool.
Pebblesoft Multimedia Processor
The Multimedia Processor is a tool that compresses video, audio and image files
in a single batch operation using third party tools. It automatically invokes compression
for any media file in a course.
