All From a Pebble

Consider the small pebble and what it can teach us. Throw the pebble to the center of the pond, and watch as the ripple it forms radiates out in a perfect circle and is still widening and growing long after the pebble has settled to the bottom. Education has that power, more than almost any other human endeavor.

Real-Time Interactive Learning: A New Paradigm

What was most obvious to the Pebblesoft founders was the great need in almost all industries for improved learning structures. Nearly everything happening in business -- new technologies, the increased demand for information -- seemed to drive the need for learning well and learning fast. Employers became aware that most jobs changed within a matter of months, so education of employees needed to be almost continuous and conducted within the framework of the working day, not in some off-premises seminar or conference. At the same time, employees began to appreciate the opportunity to grow through education as an important benefit because it improved their marketability.

Pebblesoft is dedicated to the importance of the learner portion of the instructional equation. That's why we say that our product is "learner" centric, that it fits the individual learner's preferred style of learning (audio, visual, textual, random or sequential). We make it possible for learners to:

  • Collaborate at any time with fellow classmates.

  • Search the web for related topics.

  • Provide feedback about the course and instructor.

  • Create a personalized notebook.

  • Absorb information at their own pace.

  • Choose the components in which they have the most interest.

Why Real-Time Interactive Learning is Better

Real-Time interactive learning utilizes the web so that learners may interact with multi-media learning materials and other students and instructors on an as-needed basis. It is the only practical instructional system when there are time and distance factors involved. Classroom training, once the preferred method for corporate training, is unresponsive to today's faster product cycles and demands for lower costs. Other, more modern approaches, such as CD-ROM, while cost-effective, are too static and cumbersome. Some of the areas in which real-time interactive learning is clearly superior include:

  • Medical, accounting and legal professionals struggling to keep up with ongoing educational requirements.

  • Sales forces facing almost daily product announcements.

  • Employees in far-flung locations, requiring environmental and health and safety updates.

  • Airplane mechanics sorting through reams of repair instructions that could be out of date.
